I'm making this new review because byet answered really fast to my complains, and apparently the spam was originated from someone that hacked the account, so it may have been an error by me or some client, they replied very fast, helped me setting all up again, and I was up in a few hours.. so it is still a great hosting company

worked for many years not anymore
This hosting worked prefectly for me for many years.. I hosted several websites and emails without trouble but since last year (2012) I started having problems.. first with spam , every fucking mail got spam from our own domains.. so if your site was yoursite.com you would receive emails from [email protected] spamming YOUR OWN ACCOUNTS god only knows if those same addresses were used to spam outside servers, and this has become even more apparent in last weeks, I still stayed with them because overall the service was good.. but today I tried to login only to be greeted with a message that my account was suspended.. this WILL cause me a lot of problems with clients which have been really pissed off by the spam problem, they call me constantly asking me if their computers have viruses or what.. I can totally listen to them tomorrow complaining they can't login to their mail accounts, hope this gets repaired soon or I will be in serious trouble.

Don't waste your time 
I chose byethost because of the price, which was a big mistake. For the first year everything went smooth and I had no problems. Soon after (approx early 2012) they switched their payment system to an external company- after a few months at some point my payment went to the external company but byethost never received it... so my account was suspended until I made another payment. When they suspend your account it's game over- after resolving the payment issue none of my password worked, I had to have every last one of them reset and I began working on my site again- only to find out that every single day my passwords would need to be reset because the system defaulted and locked me out of my account, over and over and over... there's a serious problem with their system and their tech support had no clue what was going on. I dealt with this for a few months before deciding the headache wasn't worth it...

Top free and paid host
I have been using Byethost.com for over 2 years with their free and paid hosting. I disagree with alot of the negative posts in here, my sites have never had any problems or issues, over the last 6 months Byethost have been adding new MySQL servers and new features to their cPanel almost every week, there is alot of development and improvements going on at byet such as the new once click installer, PHP flags manager to edit the servers PHP settings etc, im proud to have my site hosted here.

Go pick another hosting
The free hosting they offer is absolute crap. The server and FTP speeds are incredibly slow, the support agents are idiots and they keep removing features from their free plans. I seriously doubt they even offer any good paid hosting either.
Just pick something else, Byethost will only disappoint you.

Awesome!
This webhost is awesome. Totally Free! Server has never been down and is super fast. All the great features of cpanel included. They never ask you to upgrade... There is a donate button inside the panel, which I did, and plan to do regularly. They offer subdomain names, and the ability to add your own domain name... all unlimited! I have nothing to complain about...

The KB doesn't exist and the FAQ only covers the most basic (=noobish) questions.Using the Help Desk costs $5 each time.Prepare to dish out $5 when requesting one of their advertised weekly backups or after having been hacked
Been there a few days and already experienced a short down time (few mins, still ok)
Update cycles are abysmal. Most autoinstaller packages saw new releases 3-4 months ago, leaving users for months with already fixed vulnerabilities
OK hoster if you're knowledgeable enough to fix your own problems & willing to invest some time to even out the short comings. Cpanel-based freehosters are a dime a dozen nowadays,though. Newbies should choose a freehoster with a support forum

Great Provider
I had doubts when I first saw this. I decided to see how this free site worked with my domain. I already had a domain name, it was just parked. I figured I'd give it a try. I had a couple of minor issues, but the help desk was very helpful. The answered my questions in a fast amount of time. Considering this is a free service, I was suprised how helpful they are. If this continue the way they are. If I do need more space and bandwith, I will purchased their pay package.

Run away from them
I am now in the third year with them. Most of time were ok, but when your site get trafic they suspend it without notify. Their suport agents are idiots. I asked canceling some hosting services in order to move them in a reseller account and they canceled my domains. I can't wait to escape from there. No contact info except their lousy tiket sistem. They are fraud.

A disappointment
I used the free service for 2.5 years, it was ok most of the time, but after a few months of not updating or checking my website, instead of my content, after typing my domain's name in the browser, I found an ad page. On the server, the content was intact, they just decided to use my domain as they pleased. No more. This is outrageous.

It's Heaven
Good is an understatement. This provider is superb. I moved an entire Joomla CMS with contents from my paying host elsewhere, and i did it all in one day. And never had any need to contact support.
The free service has everything i need, enough to get started. I will surely buy the premium service once the site is heavily utilised.
My only issue was that i tried to move an 26MByte zip file and the file manager (net ftp) would not let unzip saying there is a bug in the file manager itself. I got around this by uploaing the raw files individually, all 5000+ of them.
It took several hours, i went to sleep, but file zilla and the ftp server kept going, very smooth, and i wake up to ajob completed. Now, that is what i call service !

Really Great Hosting
This host is really great compared to anothers, i dont have ads there, uptime is really great, space is great and enought for most of sites, their systems for hostings are really great, only little problem you can have in some countries is the speed, the account is activated really fast.

I give them ten out of ten points. Why? I have been using their free and premium services for over two years now and never experienced any problems. To reply to some other reviewer: If you don't make regular backups of your oh-so-invaluable data, its YOUR fault when you lose all your stuff. There is no excuse for such stupidity, don't try to blame someone else for it.

Worst hosting ever
Really - i started to use it as my test-ground for my projects, but what is happening with it now is unacceptable. The redirecting your links to some crapy Ads pages! Really. The tur off sending mails with php. The speed sucks as hell and phpMyAdmin don't usually work at all! 5x to try import database until it finaly accept my data. I'm really going elsewhere ... DONT USE IT!

best free hosting
I use the Free hosting plan. The support and the uptime are accordingly the best.
The web site hosting is cool for me. I got the free version. They closed my account I believe by accident but they reactivated it very quickly. It's cool for me and I don't plan to change hosts.

Reduced functionality
I'm a reseller of byethost services and have to say that the free hosting is rapidly declining in functionality. My features list is being reduced by the month in line with byethost's, it used to be a great service until the features were abused so much by free users that the filtering of php functions became to restrictive to be workable and therefore withdrawn. Having said that. I'm happy to be a byet reseller and pride myself on the excellent support I give but however good it is I'm bound by the ever increasing hosting restrictions placed upon me. A common alternative for free hosting is with resellerpanel resellers of which there are many listed here but on the whole a poorer service IMO.

Paid plans for cheap
Paid plans are very cheap. I upgraded my free plan for a very reasonable price. I recommend the paid plans for everyone looking to upgrade.
